Downtown Markham - a master planned community by the remington Group
Downtown Markham is a master-planned community being developed by The Remington Group located east of Warden Avenue and north of Highway 407 Markham, Ontario. It is situated on 243 acres and is the "largest planned mixed-use development in Canada" located just south of the Rouge River and west of the GO Line designed by Quadrangle Architects Ltd. This $3 billion community combines entertainment, retail, commercial and residential properties with green environmental building standards. This is where families can live, work and play.
Downtown Markham has everything. This is where you can go to work. This is where you can live and this is also where you can enjoy a great night out. Everything is within reach in a lush setting situated near accessible transit. This is a whole complete community on over 240 acres of land. The Remington Group is heading this massive project that will take many years to complete. The first phase of Downtown Markham was completed in 2009 and work has continued steadily since. All buildings are designed to meet LEED Silver standards. Nine condo towers plus 175 luxury town manors are already built. Also on the site is the Cineplex Cinemas 2,400 seat movie theatre which open its doors in April of 2015. Downtown Markham will also be home to businesses such as IBM, Hilton, Worley Parsons, Honeywell and now Aviva moving from Scarborough to this location.
There are many reasons to live in Downtown Markham. Downtown Markham will have 2 million square feet of retail and dining. There will be 10,000 luxury town manors and condominiums. There will be 3.4 million square feet of premium commercial office space. There will be 100,000+ square feet of fitness facilities. There's also many trails for walking, biking and running. There's also a 200+ luxury boutique Marriott® Hotel. There's a 20,000 seat, $325 million, NHL sized sports and entertainment complex. There's more than 5000+ parking spaces plus integrated transit connecting VIVA rapid transit and GO Transit. This development will also feature the world's first solar powered fine-art carousel, street art wall featuring talented artists and an outdoor museum. Another perk is the 72 acres of natural and landscaped green spaces to enjoy the beautiful outdoors.
Another reason to say "yes" to Downtown Markham is that the Province of Ontario has said "yes" to the new site of York University/Seneca College campus. This is an expansion partnership between York University, Seneca College, the Province of Ontario, the Regional Municipality of York and the City of Markham. "The campus will be integrated into the Markham Pan Am Centre, providing a state-of-the-art multi-sports facility for students and the surrounding community."
Downtown Markham will have close to 50,000 new homes anticipated in the next ten years and will serve as the Central Business District to the city employing approximately 16,000 people. This will be a vibrant, "culturally-infused" high-density mixed-use development which will offer offices, shops, dining and places to call home.
"Downtown Markham is about creating memorable experiences. Enjoy the thrill of your first carousel ride, falling in love in our art park, or re-kindling a romance while dining al fresco. Downtown Markham is the PLACE TO BE INSPIRED."
Another place to live and also be inspired and is just south east from this development is Universal City Condominiums in the heart of the City of Pickering.
